Billy Mays Meets Untimely End

In a week that has seen surprising announcements of the passing of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson, we now learn of today’s passing of iconic TV advertising pitchman Billy Mays at age 50. Mays was found unresponsive in his home in Tampa, Florida. Reportedly Mays hit his head hard on a plane that suffered a blown tire, and wasn’t feeling well afterwards. Full details are pending.

Mays is best known for his loud and boisterous personality, selling products such as Oxi Clean, Mighty Putty, Hercules Hooks and Kaboom! Mays was just recently picked up by the Discovery Channel as a co-star in the new series Pitchmen.

Surprising most in his rapid rise to cultural top-of-mind awareness of late has been the ubiquitous omnipresence of Vince Schlomi, advertising product pitchman for Sham-Wow and the Slap-Chop. Thanks to The Smoking Gun, we now have a guide for what NOT to do when you are the face of a nationally advertised set of consumer products.

According to the police report, Schlomi was arrested on February 7th on a felony battery charge after beating up prostitute Sasha Harris in his South Beach Miami hotel room after she reportedly bit his tongue and would not let go.
